The United States Postal Service is offering a reward of $100,000 to anyone who provides information leading to the arrest of the individual or individuals responsible for shooting and killing 26 year-old postal carrier Tyson Jerome Barnette. The murder occurred in Landover, Maryland.
According to the Prince George’s County Police Department, an unidentified assailant or assailants fired multiple shots at Barnette as he was completing his route for the day this past Saturday. At approximately 7 p.m., Barnette was discovered on the ground, bleeding from multiple gunshot wounds. He died at the scene of the shooting.
The police are interviewing residents surrounding the scene of the crime. The United States Postal Service has launched its own investigation to find the killers. Aside from offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the killers, the USPS officials stressed that murdering or attempting to murder a federal official, while the official is on federal duty, is punishable by the death penalty.
USPS workers across the country have been in the news recently as victims of attacks resulting in personal injuries. For example, residents of Beaumont, Texas were not receiving their mail for a week after a postal worker was attacked in the city.
