Fishing is America’s Deadliest Job.

“The Deadliest Catch” is no misnomer.

According to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics National Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries, more fishermen are killed in work-related accidents than workers in any other profession in the United States.

The report shows that the death rate among American fishermen is 121.2 per 100,000 workers, nearly 40 times the average death rate of 3.5 deaths per 100,000 workers.

The biggest dangers to fishermen, experts say, come from extreme weather and heavy equipment.

The next four most dangerous professions, in order of average deaths, are loggers, airplane pilots, trash collectors and roofers.

The safest jobs are those of file clerks, insurance sales agents and customer service representatives, with only 3 total work-related deaths among all such workers.
