41 Year-Old Man Who May Never Work Again After Slip and Fall Accident Settles Worker’s Compensation Claim For $325,000.

A 41 year-old New Britain, Connecticut man, who suffered permanent back injuries following a slip and fall accident at his job in 2013, has agreed to a $325,000 workers’ compensation settlement. Wilkins Irizarry underwent a July 2014 spinal fusion and will likely never be able to work again due to his injury. Mr. Irizarry worked as a manual laborer for the Rocky Hill-based Burris Logistics at the time of the incident. Burris is a food service redistribution company.

The first offer to settle from Burris Logistics’s insurance company was for $150,000, just north of half Mr. Irizarry’s initial demand of $345,000. Following testimony from medical experts who said Mr. Irizarry would never be able to work again, the demand jumped to $600,000 until an agreement was eventually reached at $325,000. That amount was signed off on by both sides on November 15, with payment expected in December.
