OSHA Cites Machine & Fabrication Shop for Health Hazards.

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recently cited Bear Ridge Machine & Fabrication, a company located in Frackville, PA, for 31 serious safety and health violations.  The inspection leading to the citations was a part of OSHA’s Site-Specific Targeting Program, which targets industries with high injury and illness rates.  The Bear Ridge shop was penalized $70,000, has 15 business days to comply and may request an informal conference to contest the citations and proposed penalties.

Bear Ridge’s serious violations included: electrical hazards, and a failure to implement a respiratory protection and hazard communication program; failure to keep the workplace sanitary; failure to have exits clearly marked and visible; and failure to conduct fit testing and medical evaluations or provide proper safety and protective gear to workers.  OSHA finds a serious violation of worksite conditions when there is a substantial probability that a death or serious physical harm could result from a hazard that the employer knew or should have known about.
