Massachusetts Investigators Recover $11 Million In Employer Minimum Wage And Tax Law Violations In 2011 – Double The Amount Recovered In 2010.

Investigators in Massachusetts almost doubled the amount of money collected in 2011 for employer minimum wage violations and tax law violations as compared to 2010. According to local investigators, nearly $11 million was recovered in fines, back taxes and unpaid wages from employers in 2011. In 2010, the recovery was at around $6.5 million, and it was only $1.4 million in 2009. The industries that the investigators concentrated on included construction, auto sales and food service and hospitality. The findings showed that many workers were being harshly exploited. The task force of investigators was made up from 15 state agencies that regulate employment issues in the state. The exploited workers include a wide range of victims, from undocumented immigrants to American citizens.
