A 42 year-old worker for the Illinois Department of Transportation was assisting a stalled motorist on the Dan Ryan Expressway in Chicago. Suddenly, he was struck by another motor vehicle. The offending motor vehicle then fled from the scene of the auto crash.
Witnesses report that the car was either grey or silver, and possibly a Nissan.
The unidentified worker was taken to the Northwestern Memorial Hospital emergency room. He suffered from serious injuries, including a broken leg and internal bleeding. He remains in critical condition.
The hit-and-run motorist is at large. But he faces up to 14 years in prison and a $10,000 fine for injuring a state worker if caught.
