United States employers added just 119,000 jobs in April, 2012, the lowest number in months. Economists had expected closer to 170,000 jobs to be added after a gain of 201,000 jobs in March. The new numbers are a stark reminder that the road to recovery is a slow and gradual one this time around. Interestingly, a Labor Department report is expected to show that private payrolls actually accelerated in April, with unemployment remaining at a steady 8.2 percent. Manufacturers and construction companies were the primary culprit behind the low numbers. Service providers added a significant number of jobs, but most of the gain was from medium and small sized companies. Large companies added just 4,000 jobs.
